Intel introduces X25-M 34 nm SSd offering low price and high performance for their solid-state drive range, having moved to more cost-effective 34nm NAND flash production. The shift could see SSDs reduced by as much as 60-percent for both PC and laptop OEMs and mainstream consumers. The new 34nm drives are drop-in compatible with the original 50nm version, but offer improved performance and reduced latency. In fact, latency is down by a quarter, and Input/Output Operations Per Second (IOPS) is up to 6,600 4KB write and up to 35,000 read. The X25-M 80GB SSD will now be priced at $225 for quantities up to 1,000 units (a 60 percent reduction from the original introduction price of $595 twelve months ago), while the 160GB version is $440 (down from $945 at introduction). Both are 2.5-inch drives; the 34nm 1.8-inch X18-m will follow later this quarter. Related Topics:-
